Please enjoy this account of our latest adventure-sailing from Vancouver to Honolulu.

Day 1: Arrived onboard at noon.  Quickly processed. Complementary champagne on ice in the suite. 
            We had purchased a suite and were upgraded to Neptune Suite-735 square feet of luxury with    a huge double verandah and picture windows. 

Day 2:  Breakfast on our verandah.  Watched the sea fog lift.  Heard sea lions barking from shoals off the coast of Oregon.

Day 3: Rough seas and sunny skies.  A perfect sailing day"  Tonight is the 1st formal night.

Day 4: Calm seas and sea-fog off the coast near San Francisco.  Cool as usual for SF.  Totally relaxed.  Planning our next cruise to Europe next year!  Watched the sunset from the verandah.

Day 5: Arrived in San Diego at 5:30 AM.  Temperature: 20C.  Clear blue skies.  Sunny & warm!  Sat on the verandah looking at the battleships moored at Coronado Island.  Spent a quiet day onboard!

Day 6:  Sunny and drop day at sea.  Wonderful Hawaiian entertainers now onboard.  Purchased next year's trip.

Day 7: Another super day at sea! Relaxed and quiet!

Day 8: Beautiful warm and sunny day at sea.  Calm seas.  Mimosas on the verandah.  Nap on the verandah.  Roak bought a watch.

Day 9: Even warmer than yesterday.  Sunny skies!  Feeling great!

Day 10: Awarded bronze medallions representing 100+ sailing days with Holland America. Then hosted to a brunch by the Captain.  Met a woman who has earned awards for over 1400+ sailing days with HA.  The rest of the day spent on verandah enjoying the 25C weather.

Day 11: Disembarked Honolulu!  Spent a few days there.  Then home to Vancouver to host friends arriving from New Zealand and who are staying a few days with us.

Sep 20. Day  6

Sunny and warm day.  Enjoying the Queen Charlottes and Vancouver Island.  We won at the Casino and are going home ahead of the game.  Yeah!

Sep 18 Day 5


Spent the day in Glacier Bay.  Again, witnessed the calving of the glaciers while drinking mimosas and eating snert (Dutch pea soup).  Quiet remainder of the day reading on deck.  Tomorrow Ketchikan.

Sep 19 Day 6

Ketchikan.  Spent a quiet day reading onboard.  Sunny! Warm! Some rain! Typical for this time of year.  Great Day!

Juneau.  Some sun!  Some rain! Cool!  Alaska in the fall.  We also booked our Christmas cruise to the Caribbean that will include visits to Tortola, Guadaloupe, St Lucia, St Maarten and Half Moon Cay.

Day 2 to Alaska



At sea!  Cool and foggy but a great day at sea.  Roak got his 2 watches which will last him about 2 to 3 years.  He also got his usual at sea, pedicure.  Tomorrow Juneau.  If we disembark it will be to buy popcorn for Peter.

Off to Alaska

Well, one year ago we travelled to Alaska not knowing that Roak had a broken back.  This year we are travelling to Alaska knowing that he has progressively healed and is doing well.

Day 15 at sea & Day 16 Return home.

Day 15
We spent the day sailing back to Tampa.  Roak had his second acupuncture treatment with excellent results, again.

Day 16
Disembarked at Tampa.  Flew home!  Great trip.

Now we are planning Roak's 80th birthday party/ies:  one here in November and one in Holland in the summer-all things going well!
